Both platforms monitor portable restroom tanks. The differences are in what else they do, what software they work with, and how fast you get data. Here's the full breakdown.

Satellite Sense™ capabilities sourced from publicly available Satellite Industries documentation (Feb 2026). Rivio capabilities reflect the current production platform.
Satellite Sense
Satellite Sense integrates exclusively with ServiceCore. Sensor data triggers actions inside ServiceCore — routing, dispatch, upsells — but only if you're a ServiceCore customer.
Rivio
Rivio works with any dispatch, routing, or billing software you already use. Open API means you can pipe data anywhere — your BI tools, custom dashboards, or third-party platforms.
Satellite Sense
Satellite Sense monitors portable restroom units in the field — waste levels, usage, movement, and temperature. It doesn't track your service trucks or vacuum equipment.
Rivio
Rivio monitors both your stationary units AND your service trucks. Tank fill levels, pump status, automated job states, GPS breadcrumbs, speed — trucks and units on one dashboard.
Satellite Sense
Satellite Sense adjusts transmission frequency to maximize battery life (2–3 years). This means updates are periodic rather than continuous — fine for trending, not ideal for live dispatch.
Rivio
Rivio uses configurable reporting intervals over 4G LTE. For portable restroom sensors, you choose the cadence that matches your service schedule — no fixed frequency imposed.
Satellite Sense
Purpose-built for portable restrooms. If you also operate septic trucks, grease trap vehicles, food-grade haulers, or restroom trailers, Satellite Sense doesn't cover those use cases.
Rivio
Rivio is built for any liquid fleet — septic, grease, food-grade, chemical, portable restrooms, and restroom trailers. One platform, one dashboard, every liquid asset you manage.
We believe in honest comparisons. Here's where Satellite Sense has advantages.
If you're a ServiceCore customer, Satellite Sense triggers actions directly inside your dispatch and billing workflows. Rivio doesn't integrate with ServiceCore.
The built-in accelerometer estimates how often a unit is used — helpful for upselling additional units at high-traffic sites. Rivio doesn't track door-based usage counts.
Satellite Sense is optimized for 2–3 year battery life on stationary units. Rivio's truck sensors use vehicle power; stationary sensor battery life varies by reporting interval.
Satellite Sense is a strong portable restroom sensor. If you only operate portable restrooms and you're already on ServiceCore, it's a natural fit.
But if you need to track trucks AND units, work with different software, operate mixed-fleet liquid hauling, or want an open API for custom integrations — Rivio is the platform built for that.
Rivio doesn't just give you data. It gives you threshold-based dispatch alerts, proof of service, open API integrations, and a single dashboard for every liquid asset you manage.
It depends on your operation. Rivio is better if you need truck monitoring, multi-fleet support, platform-agnostic integration, or an open API. Satellite Sense is better if you only monitor portable restrooms and are committed to ServiceCore.
Yes. Some operators use Satellite Sense on stationary units and Rivio on their trucks. They're independent systems that don't conflict.
Rivio supports radar, pressure, and float sensors for tank level monitoring, plus GPS, accelerometers, and pump detection for trucks. Satellite Sense uses ultrasonic sensors for waste levels.
Both use LTE cellular connectivity. Satellite Sense uses LTE-CAT1; Rivio uses 4G LTE. Coverage is comparable in most markets across the U.S. and Canada.
Contact us for a side-by-side quote. Rivio offers transparent pricing with no hidden software lock-in fees. Many operators find the truck monitoring included in Rivio offsets any per-unit cost difference.
If you leave ServiceCore, Satellite Sense data loses its integration advantage. Rivio's open API means your monitoring works regardless of what software you use now or in the future.
